Artist Statement
Susan Buswell is a fiber artist practicing the art of rug hooking in her Massachusetts studio for 25 years. Like many who are drawn to fiber arts, color and pattern are the focus of my work. My art reflects a love of nature, landscapes, and special moments. The use of bold colors is my trademark, as well as a love of texture, pattern and unique color combinations.
My goal is to provide a source for uniquely designed, one of a kind hand hooked rugs and wall hangings, and to promote the art of rug hooking. I love to teach classes and believe we all have an artist in us. The basic techniques of rug hooking are simple and with time can be taken to many different levels. I strive to show that rug hooking is still a vibrant, creative outlet of expression.
About Susan
Initially interested in the construction trades, Susan earned an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering from Vermont Technical College and from there worked as a finished carpenter for the National Trust of Historic Preservation Restoration Workshop. Working on many National Trust properties, including Lyndhurts in Tarrytown, NY and Drayton Hall in Charleston, South Carolina, she became interested in the furnishings and fiber arts represented in the collections. In 1992, Susan took a class in traditional rug hooking and became "hooked." Over the past 28 years, Susan has produced an impressive body of work. She has been teaching rug hooking for over 10 year, and looks forward to holding classes in her Cohasset studio in the future.
